Sigma Phi Zeta Sorority was founded on April 7, 2005 in Philadelphia, PA at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Its founding mothers, Theshean Edwards, Patria Bryant, and Yolanda Jones, aspired to create a multicultural organization that promoted and represented various cultures of minority women on the campus of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia after researching, evaluating, and exhausting all other options. After much diligent hard work, the constitution and bi-laws were completed, and the beginning of the organization was well on its way. This organization, based on the ideals of sisterhood, scholarship, service, loyalty, and honesty focuses on the issues affecting minority communities and the education of youth.
In order to determine if Sigma Phi Zeta Sorority would lead to future success, a random study of the campus of the University of the Sciences was conducted. This survey showed support from the diverse female student population on the campus. In addition to this survey a list of potential members was garnered which again validated the idea that many UScienceswomen sought after such an organization. In the future, Sigma Phi Zeta Sorority seeks to join the National Multicultural Greek Council. As a member of this national council, Sigma Phi Zeta Sorority will thereby become known as a national organization. At such time, Sigma Phi Zeta Sorority would be enabled to influence society not just on a local level but also on an international level. |
